Margin (2024)

for Cello and Piano

Performed by BlackBox Ensemble

Program Note: Margin is a piece for cello and piano inspired by the beauty of emptiness, a core value in traditional Korean arts. The concept of 'Line Art' is created when ink touches the white space on paper. It embodies the movement, speed, density, and the intricate techniques and sensations of ink merging or being absorbed into the white space, creating ink spaces on the paper while leaving behind infinite white emptiness. Additionally, the areas of white space untouched by ink showcase the beauty of emptiness. This is expressed through the sounds of the cello and piano, where the existence of both instruments creates diverse movements, speeds, dynamics, and spaces across time and dimensions, while also generating emptiness through resonance.
